Advanced Concepts in Sustainability

Core Course for our Sustainability Minor

Catalog Description
This course is taught in a project or case-based format and will seek to help students learn the variousapplications of sustainability in real-world contexts. This course offers a practical application of sustainability knowledge and practices to address a community problem. Environmental, equity and economic impacts must be considered in performing situation analyses and developing recommendations.

Major Activities for Fall 2022:
Introduction to Hydroponics
Introduction to Aquaponics
Successful completion of three Nelson and Pade e-courses in Aquaponics
Assist in the grand opening of our new 8,600 sq/ft greenhouse at SV
Introduction to environmental DNA sampling, and hands-on use with real time quantitative PCR (qPCR), participating with students in our eDNA special topics course, BIO 491 - eDNA environmental monitoring

Participation in Community Garden Outreach
Development of a draft "Food Safety Plan" for Sustainability Village
